What jeff sends,
and what it keeps.

The short version
jeff has no server and no account. It never sells or shares your data, and it does not track you, show ads or collect analytics. To judge posts it talks to one service, Jev by TypeSafe, using an API key you provide.
What is sent, and to whom
Only to TypeSafe’s API at api.typesafe.ai, with your own key, and only on the sites jeff supports (X, YouTube, LinkedIn, Reddit and Hacker News):
- To judge a post: the post’s text, its author’s name, and your filters.
- To turn a line you type into filters: that line.
- With every request: your key, as TypeSafe requires. It is checked once when you save it.
Posts are judged as they come near your screen, not in bulk. jeff does not open or read the pages that posts link to. TypeSafe processes these requests under its own terms and privacy policy; usage is billed to your TypeSafe account.
What stays in your browser
Stored with Chrome’s extension storage on your device, and never sent anywhere else:
- your API key
- your filters and settings for each site, including authors you chose to always show
- today’s count of Jev calls and tokens, and your daily limit
The list of recently hidden posts and the answers Jev gave are kept in memory for the open tab only, and are gone when you reload it. Removing the extension deletes everything it stored.
Permissions

- Active tab, so the popup can show and change the settings of the site you are on.
- Access to api.typesafe.ai, to ask Jev.
- The five supported sites, to read the posts in your feed and mark them. jeff runs nowhere else.
The playground
play.tryjeff.com lets you try jeff on a made-up feed, without installing anything or having a key.
- Lines you type are sent to Jev by TypeSafe with the playground’s own key, and the made-up posts are judged against the filters they become. Don’t type anything personal.
- Repeated lines cost nothing: a line’s filters are cached for up to 6 hours and the judgments for up to a day. The cache holds the line and its results, not who typed it.
- Limits per visitor: to keep costs bounded, the playground counts how many lines each visitor tries per hour and per day. It counts by a salted hash of your IP address that changes every day; the address itself is not stored, and the counts are deleted when the day ends (UTC).
This website
tryjeff.com and play.tryjeff.com run on Cloudflare. They set no cookies and run no analytics. Cloudflare may keep standard request logs, such as IP addresses, to operate and protect the service.
Changes
If what jeff sends or stores changes, this page changes with it, and the date above is updated.
